Liz Cooper is a writer and editor based in Washington, DC.

Cooper spent the past five years working as a writer and editor at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service where she captured the voice of the Chief and USDA Secretary in editorial templates, created issues management systems, and developed strong working relationships with leadership to manage high-level correspondence. She also held a role with the Forest Service’s External Strategic Communication Team, where she coordinated with regional communication leaders across the country and served as co-editor for the national Features desk, writing and editing articles through the storytelling lens of people serving on national forests and grasslands.
Cooper spent the first ten years of her career at the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the nation’s largest LGBTQ nonprofit, educating and consulting with Fortune 500 and other major employers to create inclusive policies, benefits, and practices for all employees. She regularly ghostwrote report introductions, quotes for press inquiries, and speeches and remarks on behalf of HRC’s president, senior leadership, and corporate partners at the C-suite level. While there, she authored and oversaw the data analysis for reports including: Corporate Equality Index; Buying for Workplace Equality Guide; The Cost of the Closet and the Rewards of Inclusion: Why the Workplace Environment for LGBTQ People Matters for Employers; A Workplace Divided: Understanding the Climate for LGBTQ Workers Nationwide; Supporting the Journey Gender Transition in the Global Workplace: A Best Practices Study Based on IBM’s Comprehensive Approach.
Cooper earned her Master of Arts in Writing from Johns Hopkins University with a concentration in nonfiction. Her work there included a memoir draft, personal essays, a film script, profiles, and reported pieces on doppelgängers, climate change, and Certified Professional Organizers. Cooper earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina.
When not writing and editing, Cooper is spellbound by the latest pop culture news or out for a walk with her dog, Penny.
